THE BOOK: The incredible life of W.E.B. Du Bois, the most important black rights activist of the first half of the twentieth century. Friend of Khrushchev and Mao, great sociologist, historian, writer and publicist, first African American to graduate from Berlin and Harvard. An extraordinary and underestimated man in the West and in the United States, where he was persecuted for his communist sympathies. In his long and intense existence – he died at the age of 95 in Africa at the height of his activities – he created several organizations that survived him. For some years, especially in the USA, a meritorious work of rediscovery and valorization of his thoughts and works has been underway.

Marco Sioli associate professor of History and institutions of the Americas at the Department of International, Legal and Historical-Political Studies of the University of Milan. He was vice president of the Paris-based Réseau pour le Développement Européen de l’Histoire de l’Amérique (REDEHJA) which he helped found in 2006, and was a member of the Organization of American Historians (OAH) and the Italian Society of international studies (SISI). He is the author of the volume Abraham Lincoln. Le parole, le politiche e l’uso politico(Ibis, 2016).
